The answer to New Life is YES!

The Answer to a New Life is "YES!!"
**By Steve Thomas, Executive Director, NLS

Can someone that grew up in poverty, never knowing anyone in their family that ever worked, develop skill sets to acquire and maintain a good job? Can someone that is trapped, in what we will call taxpayer-funded poverty, break free, know the love of God, and the dignity of work? Taxpayer-funded poverty is the terminology I use for the government programs that keep people locked into poverty not allowing them to achieve independence and be self-sufficient. The answer to a new Lifescape is YES.

First of all, man was made to work In Genesis 2:15, the Bible says “the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and to take care of it.” So even from the beginning of creation, God intended for us to work. Work gives an individual a sense of dignity; and dignity gives a person a sense of self-respect, and self-respect instills pride and confidence.

This leads to self-esteem, which is really just confidence in one’s own worth and ability. Low self-esteem breeds low self-esteem in a cycle of self-doubt. Low self-esteem creates problems like depression, anxiety, and isolation. The type of problems we see with people trapped in government housing and in a system that has become a way of life for them. High self-esteem likes challenge and stimulation of worthwhile and demanding goals and reaching such goals, nurture good self-esteem. It’s a cycle, just like the cycle that people get stuck in from generation to generation in taxpayer-funded poverty. Success can be a cycle too.

“For I know the plans I have for you, ‘declares the Lord,’ plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) If you are living the way I just described, you are not living the way God planned for you. You see God never planned for his creation to live in poverty. Poverty is a blight on the creation of God and this blight is preserved through taxpayer-funded poverty.

There are now multiple generations of people and families that have grown up and lived under taxpayer-funded poverty. The problems created in families are immense under these circumstances. However, I want to talk today about the individual. Most of us have the skills to learn and develop our mind and support ourselves while helping others. Many people living in the situation being described have some things in common.

They’ve been diagnosed, many times, with some type of mental illness, or they have
developed symptoms of depression and anxiety that is really more situational than organic. Problems with attention for instance, such as concentrating on a task and sustaining focus.  An inability to regulate emotions, such as being quick to anger or crying often for no apparent reason is common.  Impulse control is a big issue with control over behaviors and impulses such as drug use or overspending. People living in taxpayer-funded poverty often have no initiative to begin a task or project without being told to do so.

Anyone of these issues or a combination of these problems can affect self-esteem, self-respect, and the ability to function. What comes out of that is depression, anxiety, mood swings, suicidal ideations, and possibly psychiatric hospitalization.

While dealing with these internal struggles, people are trying to figure out how to keep a roof over their head and feed their families. The good news is many of these things that I listed above are issues that New Lifescape Ministry can help you work through. It will not be easy and you will have to trust us, trust God, and work with the team of loving people that we put around you. We can help you if you want to escape the life you have under taxpayer-funded poverty.

You can do it!

I’ve helped people and I’ve seen people grow, thrive, and lead productive lives.  What God created you for is …love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control… (Galatians 5:22-23) All these things are promised to you by God, and with God’s guidance, New Lifescape Ministry can help you thrive and prosper.
